Peptic Ulcer

Stomach ulcers also called peptic ulcers are sores that develop on the lining of the esophagus or the swallowing tube, stomach or small intestine. They happen when stomach acid damages the lining of the digestive tract.

Common causes may include the bacteria H. Pylori and anti-inflammatory pain relievers.

Heavy alcohol use, psychological stress and smoking greatly increase the risk of developing ulcers especially, in those with H. Pylori. Studies show that the stomach ulcers are more likely to develop in the elderly than in the younger population.

Peptic ulcers are open sores usually found in the lining of the stomach, esophagus or upper small intestine.  And, gastric ulcers occur in the stomach.

Symptoms

Upper abdominal pain is the common symptom.  People may also experience:

• Burning or dull pain in the chest or upper abdomen.
• Belching, indigestion, nausea, passing excessive amounts of gas.
• Abdominal discomfort or fatigue.

The conventional treatment includes mediation to decrease stomach acid production. If caused by bacteria antibiotics are required. Argentumnit, geranium, uraniumnit, lycopodium, kalkeriya ars, phosphorus, natrum-phos, pulsatilla are good for peptic ulcers.
